Ping Zhang manages to save Xiao Ting Sheng, but his illness takes a turn for the worse and he passes away. The Chang Lin family is grief-stricken. The only good news is that Qian Xue is pregnant!
Ping Jing leads the army back with Ping Zhang’s coffin, and the unfortunate news is delivered to the Emperor as well. The Emperor sheds tears over the loss, and Minister Xun advises the Empress to observe the proper condolences and allow the crown prince to grieve as well.
Yuan Qi “accidentally” slips that Ping Sheng had sacrificed for him, and advises Ping Jing to ask Lin Xi. Lin Xi admits to Ping Jing that Ping Zhang had transfused blood to him. Lin Xi cries with Ping Jing that she knows Ping Jing rather dies than sacrifice his brother, but reminds Ping Jing of the apology that Ping Zhang had given to Ping Jing when transfusing blood.
Lin Xi interprets this that both Ping Zhang and herself had made their own choices – his to transfuse the blood, and hers to aid the transfusion with her medical skills. But Ping Jing had no choice.
